The Anthem[editovat zdroj]

In fact, the melody of the anthem of Israel is taken from a folk melody used in Romania and Bessarabia which existed in several lyrics versions Luncile s-au deşteptat (Song of may) (about the awakening of nature in the month of may), Carul cu boi etc, and which have similiarities with the song used by Smetana in Vltava, maybe because this folk melody was diffused in various versions in more countries of the Carpathian-Danubian space. The amateur musician who used the melody for the Zionist anthem (lyrics written in Iassy by the poet Naftali Herz Imber) was the Bessarabian Jew Samuel Cohen who brought it to Palestine. During the British mandate administration the playing of the Zionist anthem Hatikva was forbidden at radio, and for this reason the Hebrew program of the Voice of Jerusalem used to begin with Vltava by Smetana, because it reminded the Zionist anthem's melody.Ewan (diskuse) 9. 10. 2012, 02:48 (UTC)
